Nominated Charity

Sense Scotland work with children and adults who have communication support needs because of deafblindness, sensory impairment, learning and physical disabilities. We work closely with people, often on a one to one basis to find out what their aspirations are and how we can support them to live their lives.
This has been our organisational ethos, since we were established by a group of parents in the late 1970’s, some of whom still lead Sense Scotland. We firmly believe that this has contributed to a passion and commitment within our organisation that is now embedded in the 1000+ staff.
We started off in a cloakroom in the east end of Glasgow and we are now based in our recently completed headquarters and resource centre in Glasgow. We support service users from Skye to the Borders, working with most local authorities in Scotland. We work with both children and adults, which make us one of the few voluntary organisations left in Scotland who work across the age range. This is important as many of the families we support have had the same staff for many years giving them the confidence that we really know and care about their children and that there is continuity during the difficult transition from child to adult services.
